# Glossary

> Plain-English meanings for the words you will see in Autocampaign AI.

Every term below is explained in one or two sentences, with a link to the guide
that covers it. Use your browser's find (`Ctrl F` or `⌘ F`) to jump to a word.

## Your account

### Workspace

Your company's own space in Autocampaign AI. It holds your contacts, messages,
team and settings. The app sometimes calls it your **organization**.
See [Create your workspace](/getting-started/create-workspace).

### Member

A person on your team who can sign in to your workspace.
See [Invite your team](/getting-started/invite-team).

### Role

What a member is allowed to see and do. Owners and Admins can change almost
everything. Other roles are more limited. See [Users and roles](/getting-started/users-roles).

### Seat

One member's place in your workspace. Plans include a set number of seats.
See [Plans and trials](/billing/plans-and-trials).

### Plan

The package you pay for. It sets your monthly credits and limits.
See [Plans and trials](/billing/plans-and-trials).

### Trial

A free period on a new workspace, with no card needed.
See [Plans and trials](/billing/plans-and-trials).

### Credits

What sending messages, making calls and using AI costs inside your plan. When
credits run low, sending pauses until you top up or your plan renews.
See [Credits and usage](/billing/wallet-billing).

## Sending and receiving

### Channel

A way to reach people: SMS (texting), email, WhatsApp or calls.
See [Channels](/channels/overview).

### Provider

The company that carries your messages behind the scenes, such as Twilio or
Telnyx for texting. You connect one to a channel.
See [SMS channel](/channels/sms).

### Sender

The name and email address your emails come from, such as "Acme Dental
\<[hello@acmedental.com](mailto:hello@acmedental.com)>". See [Email senders](/providers/email-senders).

### Verified domain

The part of your email address after the @, once you have proved you own it.
You need one before you can send email. See [Email domains](/providers/email-domains).

### DNS record

A setting in the control panel of the company where you bought your website
address (for example GoDaddy, Namecheap or Cloudflare). Autocampaign AI asks you
to add a few of these to verify a domain. Your web person can do this in minutes.

### Opt-in

A person's permission to receive your messages. Texting someone without it
breaks carrier rules. See [Opt-in](/compliance/opt-in).

### Opt-out

When a person asks to stop hearing from you, usually by replying **STOP**.
Autocampaign AI handles this automatically. See [Opt-out](/compliance/opt-out).

### A2P 10DLC

The registration US carriers require before a business can send texts from a
normal local number. It takes a few days and is done once.
See [A2P 10DLC](/compliance/a2p-10dlc).

### Toll-free verification

The equivalent check for numbers starting 800, 888 and similar.
See [Toll-free numbers](/compliance/toll-free).

### Quick message

A saved reply you can insert into a conversation with a couple of keystrokes.
See [Quick messages](/campaigns/quick-messages).

## People

### Contact

One person in your list, with their phone number, email and details.
See [Contacts](/contacts/overview).

### Tag

A label you stick on contacts, such as "VIP" or "Spring promo", so you can find
them later. See [Tags](/contacts/tags).

### Custom field

An extra detail you want to store on every contact that the app does not have a
box for, such as "Vehicle" or "Renewal date". See [Custom fields](/contacts/custom-fields).

### Segment

A group of contacts, chosen by hand or by rules such as "everyone tagged VIP
who lives in Texas". Campaigns are sent to segments. See [Segments](/contacts/segments).

### Merge tag

A placeholder such as `{{first_name}}` that is swapped for each contact's own
details when a message is sent. See [Templates](/campaigns/templates).

## Growing your list

### Join keyword

A word people text to your number to sign up, as in "Text JOIN to 555-0100".
See [Join keywords](/growth/join-keywords).

### Join link

A sign-up page or web form with its own link that adds people to your list.
See [Join links](/campaigns/join-links).

### Lead form

A form you build here and put on your website or share by link. Each entry
becomes a contact. See [Lead forms](/growth/lead-forms).

### Chat widget

The chat button on your website. Visitors' messages land in your Inbox.
See [Website chat](/settings/chat-widget).

## Messaging at scale

See [Campaigns](/campaigns/overview).

### Template

when a form is submitted, wait a day, then send a follow-up.
See [Workflow builder](/automation/workflow-builder).

### AI Employee

An assistant you set up to reply to customers in your Inbox, following the
instructions and documents you give it. See [AI Employees](/automation/ai-employees).

### Knowledge base

The documents, web pages and notes an AI Employee reads so it answers with your
information. See [Knowledge base](/automation/knowledge-base).

## Sales and appointments

### Opportunity

A possible sale or job you are tracking, such as "Smith kitchen remodel".
See [Opportunities](/crm/opportunities).

### Pipeline

The set of steps a sale goes through, from first contact to won or lost.
See [Pipelines](/crm/pipelines).

### Stage

One step in a pipeline, such as "Quote sent". See [Pipelines](/crm/pipelines).

### Meeting type

A kind of appointment people can book with you, such as "15-minute intro
