Overview

Telnyx is one of two SMS providers Autocampaign AI supports (the other is Twilio). Connecting Telnyx lets Autocampaign AI send text messages through your Telnyx numbers and messaging profiles, and receive replies in your Inbox. It also handles A2P 10DLC registration (the US carrier registration required to send business texts from a local number).
In short: 1) Paste a Telnyx API key with Messaging scope. 2) Register your 10DLC brand and pick a messaging profile. 3) Add numbers and finish setup.
In Telnyx, a messaging profile plays the same role that a messaging service plays in Twilio. Autocampaign AI uses “Messaging Profile” terminology throughout the Telnyx setup.
Only one SMS provider can be active at a time per workspace. If Twilio is already connected, connecting Telnyx prompts you to switch — the previous provider’s numbers and profiles are removed on switch.

Before you start

You need:
  • A Telnyx account with a phone number, or funds to buy one.
  • A Telnyx API Key — a password that lets Autocampaign AI use your Telnyx account (Telnyx Portal → API Keys). It must have Messaging scope enabled, meaning the key is allowed to send messages.
  • Optionally, a Messaging Profile ID (Telnyx Portal → Messaging → Messaging Profiles) if you want to link an existing profile.
  • To be an Owner or Admin in Autocampaign AI, or have an admin give you permission to manage channels.
The API key must have the Messaging scope. A key without it connects to Telnyx but can’t send messages, and Autocampaign AI will reject it when checking it.

Connect Telnyx

Open the Telnyx channel

Go to Settings → Channels. Under SMS, find the Telnyx card (“Carrier-grade SMS messaging via Telnyx”) and click Configure.

Enter your Telnyx details

On the Connect tab, fill in:Autocampaign AI checks the format as you type — the API Key must start with KEY. The Messaging Profile ID (if provided) must be a UUID (a long ID made of letters, numbers, and dashes).

Connect & save

Click Connect & Save Credentials. Autocampaign AI checks the key with Telnyx by listing your messaging profiles before saving. On success you’ll see “Channel connected successfully” and the setup wizard opens.

Finish setup (profile, numbers, 10DLC)

After connecting, the Set Up Your Channel wizard runs in the recommended order:

Register the business that will send messages — see A2P 10DLC.

Messaging Profile

Select one or more messaging profiles (the groups that hold your numbers), or create a new one.

10DLC Campaign

Register a campaign linked to your profile, or skip to numbers (recommended, not required to finish).

Numbers

Assign numbers to your profile, or Buy New Number.
Click Finish Setup to save.

Buy a phone number

From the Numbers step, click Buy New Number and choose a Country. Optionally filter by Area Code or a Contains pattern, and select Capabilities (SMS for texts, MMS for pictures, Voice for calls). Then Search Numbers → Buy and confirm.

How replies reach Autocampaign AI (webhooks)

Webhooks are the addresses Telnyx uses to send replies and delivery updates to Autocampaign AI. They are set up automatically. Autocampaign AI sets your messaging profile’s webhook URL to https://<your-app-domain>/webhooks/sms/telnyx (with a backup URL for delivery events). Incoming webhooks are verified with Telnyx’s Ed25519 signature (telnyx-signature-ed25519 + telnyx-timestamp), so only genuine requests from Telnyx are accepted.

Check the channel status

The header shows Active, Disconnected, or Error. After connecting, the Connect tab shows only a masked API Key. Use Disconnect to remove the channel (this makes numbers unusable and pauses campaigns using it).

FAQ

No — it’s optional. If you leave it blank, Autocampaign AI finds your messaging profiles using the API key and lets you pick one during setup.
The Messaging scope. Turn it on when creating the key in the Telnyx Portal. A key without Messaging scope is rejected when checked.
They’re the same concept across providers. Telnyx calls it a messaging profile; Twilio calls it a messaging service. Autocampaign AI assigns numbers to a profile so it knows which sender and webhooks to use.

Troubleshooting

Telnyx rejected the key. Re-copy it from the Telnyx Portal → API Keys, and make sure you’re using a full key that starts with KEY.
Full message: “Ensure the key has Messaging scope enabled in the Telnyx dashboard.” Edit or recreate the key with the Messaging scope, then reconnect.
The API Key field must start with KEY. You may have pasted a different token — copy the API key value, not the key ID or a public key.
Finish setup so Autocampaign AI can save its webhook address to your messaging profile, and confirm the number is attached to that profile.
