Time to complete: ~15–30 minutes to connect and add numbers, plus 1–2 days for 10DLC carrier approval  ·  Difficulty: Beginner

Overview

Twilio is one of two SMS providers Autocampaign AI supports (the other is Telnyx). Connecting Twilio lets Autocampaign AI send text messages from your Twilio numbers and receive replies in your Inbox. It also manages A2P 10DLC registration (the US carrier registration required to send business texts from a local number) for you.
In short: 1) Paste your Twilio Account SID and Auth Token. 2) Register your 10DLC brand and pick a messaging service. 3) Add numbers and finish setup.
Only one SMS provider can be active at a time per workspace. If you already have Telnyx connected, connecting Twilio will prompt you to switch — the previous provider’s numbers and messaging services are removed on switch.

Before you start

You need:
  • A Twilio account with at least one phone number, or funds to buy one.
  • Your Twilio Account SID and Auth Token — two codes that identify your Twilio account. Both are on the Twilio Console dashboard under Account Info.
  • To be an Owner or Admin in Autocampaign AI, or have an admin give you permission to manage channels.
You can connect with a Twilio trial number to test everything, then complete 10DLC registration before sending to US numbers at volume.

Connect Twilio

1

Open the Twilio channel

In Autocampaign AI, go to Settings → Channels. Under SMS, find the Twilio card (“Enterprise SMS and MMS via Twilio”) and click Configure.
2

Enter your Twilio details

On the Connect tab, fill in:Autocampaign AI checks the format as you type — the Account SID must start with AC and the Auth Token must be 32 characters.
3

Connect & save

Click Connect & Save Credentials. Autocampaign AI checks the details with Twilio before saving. On success you’ll see “Channel connected successfully” and the setup wizard opens automatically.

Finish setup (messaging service, numbers, 10DLC)

After connecting, the Set Up Your Channel wizard walks you through four steps in the recommended order:

10DLC Brand

Register the business that will send messages. Click Register 10DLC Brand. You can’t advance until a brand exists. See the full field list in A2P 10DLC.

Service

Select one or more messaging services (the groups that hold your numbers), or click Create Service and give it a name (for example, “My SMS Service”).

10DLC Campaign

Register a campaign linked to your service, or Skip to Numbers. A campaign is strongly recommended so your business texts follow US carrier rules, but it isn’t required to finish.

Numbers

Assign phone numbers to your messaging service, or Buy New Number.
Click Finish Setup to save. You can revisit any of these from the Service, Numbers, and Brand & Campaign tabs on the Twilio channel page at any time.
In a hurry? Skip Setup selects every messaging service it finds so you can send immediately. Come back to register 10DLC before you send at volume.

Buy a phone number

From the Numbers step (or tab), click Buy New Number:
  1. Choose a Country (required).
  2. Optionally narrow by Area Code or a Contains pattern (for example, +1914).
  3. Pick CapabilitiesSMS (texts), MMS (pictures), Voice (calls); all are selected by default.
  4. Click Search Numbers, then Buy on a result and confirm the purchase.
Numbers you buy from within a setup step are attached to the selected messaging service automatically.

How replies reach Autocampaign AI (webhooks)

Webhooks are the addresses Twilio uses to send replies and delivery updates to Autocampaign AI. You don’t set them up yourself. When you finish setup, Autocampaign AI registers them with Twilio for each messaging service:
  • Incoming messages: https://<your-app-domain>/webhooks/sms/twilio
  • Delivery status: https://<your-app-domain>/webhooks/sms/twilio/status-callback
Incoming webhooks are signature-verified (Twilio HMAC via x-twilio-signature), so only genuine requests from Twilio are accepted.

Check the channel status

The channel header shows one of:
  • Active — connected and able to send.
  • Disconnected — no valid login details.
  • Error — your login details were rejected or a connection check failed.
Each setup tab also shows a green check when complete or an amber warning when something is still required (for example, “Brand registration required”). To disconnect, use Disconnect on the channel header. This makes all numbers unusable and pauses active campaigns using the channel, so confirm carefully.

FAQ

Both are on your Twilio Console dashboard under Account Info. The Account SID starts with AC; the Auth Token is a 32-character secret you can reveal and copy.
No. Only one SMS provider is active per workspace. Connecting a second provider prompts you to switch, which removes the first provider’s numbers and services from Autocampaign AI.
You can send with a connected channel, but US carriers require A2P 10DLC registration for reliable delivery to US mobile numbers. Register your brand and campaign before sending at volume.
Yes. They are stored encrypted. After saving, the Connect tab shows the Account SID and a masked Auth Token only.
Yes, but switching wipes the current provider’s numbers and messaging services in Autocampaign AI. Your campaigns using that channel are paused until you set it up again.

Troubleshooting

Twilio rejected the Account SID / Auth Token pair. Re-copy both from the Twilio Console (watch for stray spaces at the end). Confirm the Auth Token is the current one, not an old value that has since been replaced, then try again.
The SID field must be AC followed by 32 more characters (digits and the letters a–f). You likely pasted an API Key SID (SK…) or a partial value — use the Account SID from Account Info.
The Auth Token must be exactly 32 characters. Reveal and re-copy the full token.
Your Twilio TrustHub profile isn’t approved yet. Complete Twilio’s business profile verification in the Twilio Console, then retry brand registration. See A2P 10DLC troubleshooting.
Replies reach Autocampaign AI through webhooks. Finish the setup wizard so Autocampaign AI can register its webhook addresses on your messaging service. Also make sure the number is attached to a messaging service it manages.
